Hello and welcome to Bahrain International Circuit, the home of motor sports in the middle east. By the way, we also host a Formula 1 race. Apologies for the direct marketing, that was a rip off from their website, now I can continue with my story.
A trip to Sakhir, is something which I always enjoy. Whether there is a race on or not; just being there is a treat for your senses. You might have seen many action packed pictures of the circuit before. Today’s pictorial is different as it was shot on one of the normal days with nobody except the staff around.
Let me start our tour with a night shot of the iconic Sakhir Tower taken at another event, the Bahrain International Motor Show last December.
The reason I chose this picture will be obvious when you see the same tower during the day. Looks a bit pale in comparison ? my sentiments exactly.
Now let us go inside and see what actually happens inside the walls of this VVVIP location. This place to my knowledge is off bounds and by invite only. Unlike the Paddock Club which does have tickets, you can get yourself in if you have around 3000$ to spare.
There is a wall of fame with pictures of the previous winners and some administration offices. Time to get upstairs and see how the view is like from the top.
Wow ! isn’t this nice ?
Would have been even better with some champagne in hand, and super models for company. No issues :(…. till that day comes let us pray and work hard and enjoy the view of the starting line to the right and the paddock club right in front.
The aggressive sunlight made me ponder over the decision to visit in the morning. The evening would have provided far better contrast and color to the scene especially the view of the desert.
I could stay here forever, but there is a lot more to show you. Back on level ground I want to get onto the race track just to touch the surface. We stop right before the starting grid, my mind trying to visualise the cars being flagged off on a race day.
We do a quick walk through the pit lane. The logo you see is of my employer who happens to be one of the sponsors of the F1.
There is pin drop silence, the only thing we could hear is the wind. Brr Brrrhhh … eh ! what is that sound, a sportscar on a test lap perhaps. We look around with curiosity to spot the vehicle.
Now that we have clarified the source of that mechanical sound. We go back to the end of the pit straight. To the right is the podium where the trophies are given out.
We head towards the Oasis Complex stopping first at the Media Centre which is the hub for the press and hosts correspondents from all over the world who cover the grand prix.

This place is massive and has plenty of seating to go around. Perfect time for me to get some rest and a quick selfie shot.
It takes me a good 10 minute to walk around the different rooms and corridors.
We step out to enter the Race Control Building just across which was a bright and airy space.
Our final stop being the Race Control Room.
This is where the F1 race is monitored through multiple screens.
Another view of Race Control
Many of us would find the spectator pricing for F1 exorbitant and question its merit. After observing the amount of technology and method invested behind holding one race, I was convinced it is worth every penny.
Our lovely morning trip was coming to an end. As we were driving off we noticed this simple sign on the underpass which applies to us and to the best F1 driver, drive safely.
Look out for my next post detailing the very best of the live performances at Sakhir over the last 5 seasons. Till then my friends in the race of life, stay in control.
