Quaint Village on the Hill – An early morning stroll through Misfat Al Abrayeen

A fifteen minute drive uphill from Al Hamra brings you to the quaint and peacefull village of Misfat al Abrayeen. There are many way points where you can halt and soak in the view of Al Hamra at the foothills.

At the entrance of Misfat you will find a rest house to the right where you can park or head a few metres ahead of the village. Parking is limited at the village entrance, we got there at 9 am sharp to beat the heat. The earlier the better, if you are visiting in the summer, you could do this first and grab some breakfast in Al Hamra town later.

I am LIVING on a Jet Plane – A night at Jumbo Hotel in Stockholm

Parked to the east of the Stockholm Arlanda is Jumbo Stay,  one of the truly unique hotels I have inhabited during my travels. A flying bird converted into neat suites and bunker beds after its retirement. Liv, yes that’s her name is a Boeing 747-200, built in 1976 for Singapore Airlines and later serving Pan-am. Since 2008 it has found its resting place near the entrance to Arlanda airport.

I could see the aircraft from the bus stop where we took the airport bus to reach it. However, I reserved my enthusiasm to maintain the surprise for my companion who was under the impression that we were making our usual commute to city centre. When we got off two stops later with the jumbo towering in front, there was generous amount of “oh wows” on the short pathway leading up to the foot of the aircraft. A quick checkin and change of clothes and we were off for a quick tour to the ancient university town of Uppsala 40 minutes from the Arlanda.

We returned back late at night and wasted no time in getting refreshed and starting our night tour of the aircraft, and the facilities on board.

Formula 1 fever hit the island last weekend, and like the seven preceding editions I had planned to cover the best of it. This time was very special, I had access to multiple grandstands, so there would be a good balance between action and celebrity footage. Our first outing was the Pitlane Walk on Thursday afternoon.

We planned to get there early at around 2:30 pm and managed to be there on time only to find a huge queue, a bit different from previous years. The ushers asked us to move to another gate where we became the first to get inside .. super !
