Quaint Village on the Hill – An early morning stroll through Misfat Al Abrayeen

A fifteen minute drive uphill from Al Hamra brings you to the quaint and peacefull village of Misfat al Abrayeen. There are many way points where you can halt and soak in the view of Al Hamra at the foothills.

At the entrance of Misfat you will find a rest house to the right where you can park or head a few metres ahead of the village. Parking is limited at the village entrance, we got there at 9 am sharp to beat the heat. The earlier the better, if you are visiting in the summer, you could do this first and grab some breakfast in Al Hamra town later.

I am LIVING on a Jet Plane – A night at Jumbo Hotel in Stockholm

Parked to the east of the Stockholm Arlanda is Jumbo Stay,  one of the truly unique hotels I have inhabited during my travels. A flying bird converted into neat suites and bunker beds after its retirement. Liv, yes that’s her name is a Boeing 747-200, built in 1976 for Singapore Airlines and later serving Pan-am. Since 2008 it has found its resting place near the entrance to Arlanda airport.

I could see the aircraft from the bus stop where we took the airport bus to reach it. However, I reserved my enthusiasm to maintain the surprise for my companion who was under the impression that we were making our usual commute to city centre. When we got off two stops later with the jumbo towering in front, there was generous amount of “oh wows” on the short pathway leading up to the foot of the aircraft. A quick checkin and change of clothes and we were off for a quick tour to the ancient university town of Uppsala 40 minutes from the Arlanda.

We returned back late at night and wasted no time in getting refreshed and starting our night tour of the aircraft, and the facilities on board.

Next morning we had a leisurely start due to the late check in time at our hotel in Stockholm, so we helped ourselves to a simple yet decent breakfast at the jumbo cafe located right below the cockpit.

Another unique attribute is the lounge area located on the right wing. A brilliant space to catch the autumn sun and appreciate the true size and might of this seventies workhorse.

Oslo on a Budget – First Stop Frogner Park

The Vigeland Installallation at Frogner Park is one of Oslo’s top attractions with locals and tourists alike. It is very easy to distinguish between them, the tourists have their camera’s while the locals will be relaxing in the park with their kids, pets decked in sporty summer attire.

Oslo is an expensive city, whether it be the food, accommodation, or the sight-seeing. We had paired all the free attractions together for our last day in Oslo,  using up the three-day Oslo Pass first to cover bulk of the goodies in central and Bygdoy. Our first stop for the day – the sprawling greens of Frogner Park and the collection of Vigeland statues which draws people here by the thousands.

A Cup of Holy Tea with a Holy Man

Our trip to the Pushkar Cattle Fair would be incomplete, without a visit to the only Brahma temple in the world. In the Hindu trinity, Brahma the creator holds a special place, as the creator of the worlds. But when it comes to temples of worship,  unlike Shiva and Vishnu who have thousands of temples to their name across the Asian subcontinent, Lord Brahma has only one, in Pushkar.

Camera’s and bags are prohibited inside the temple so we decided to visit in pairs, with one group holding on to all the equipment outside the temple. As we looked for a spot to sit and rest we discovered gentleman’s tea stall on a narrow alley a few meters to the left from the ever busy temple steps. There were a couple of cops on their break, enjoying their tea basking in the winter sunlight, so that dispelled any quality issues.

The chai came to a boil, and I drank it piping hot, so I can order a refill if it was to taste. And what a chai it was, so if you ever visit Pushkar do stop by the Prajapat Tea Stall for a cuppa tea.

Oslo – First Impressions

It has been almost a month since my trip to Scandinavia. There were a lot of pictures, a lot of editing. Now finally the story board has taken shape, and in the coming few weeks I shall take you with me every minute of my journey.

We landed in Oslo on a Thursday, a quick check in and we were on the street. The first few hours in any new city are the most precious. You are trying to get a sense of direction,  the layout of the street and how to read the map. When cialis pills wholesale was successfully launched more than a couple of hours that is for almost 4 to 6 hours. Women have also begun to use cialis no prescription cheap Tongkat Ali extract. I don’t blame them, with such a beautiful country and so many places of absolute beauty at their fingertips.

These pictures are from the first hour of my walk in Oslo. Hope you enjoy them…
